Virtual PAES Lab Tour

Walk through a PAES Lab one work area at a time: what employees do, the skills assessed and the equipment you’ll need.

Click any work area on the floor plan, or press Start tour and use Next to walk through the lab in order: arrive, five career areas, then the supervisor station. On a Zoom call, share this tab and press Presenter mode for full screen (arrow keys work too).

Welcome to the PAES Lab

A PAES Lab classroom with shelving and work tables

A PAES Lab turns a classroom into a simulated workplace. Teachers become supervisors, students become employees, and every job produces standardized data for transition planning.

Floor plan is a sample layout; final layout confirmed with PAES. Photos are from PAES Labs and the PAES video. See example floor plans with dimensions.

Your room doesn’t have to look like this one. PAES Labs fit many room sizes. Send me your room dimensions for a free custom floor plan →

The tour, stop by stop

  1. Entrance & Check-in: Employees arrive like it’s a real job: they clock in, pick up their badge and job card, and check the schedule on the bulletin board. The supervisor confirms today’s jobs on the PAES Scan tablet.
  2. Business / Marketing: Office and retail work: alphabetizing, filing, numerical sorting, collating, making change, using a cash register, ten-key and typing.
  3. Computer / Technology: Employees complete real computer tasks: data entry, word processing, email, information management, digital photos, PowerPoint and job search.
  4. Processing / Production: Assembly-line and production work: bolt and pipe assembly, color assembly, peg and thread design, paper cutting, plus analog and digital time.
  5. Consumer / Service: Food service and home/hospitality jobs: food measurement and preparation, kitchen appliances, sewing, cloth construction, and housekeeping/custodial tasks.
  6. Construction / Industrial: Hands-on trades: shop measurement, wrenches and bolts, hammers and screwdrivers, sawing, wood, electrical (EP) and plumbing (MP) modules, and parts identification.
  7. Supervisor Station: Teachers act as supervisors. They score every job in real time on the PAES Scan app (work quality, rate, interest, trials and assistance), and PAES Scan turns it into transition reports for the IEP.
